Project details

Following Renault’s announcement to build a new version of the Traffic, in its factory in Sandouville,  Beck & Pollitzer was contracted to carry out this turnkey project.

The project included the complete mechanical installation of the body shop, doors & trunk hood, side panels and under body.

The challenge

Maintaining the contract deadlines in spite of delays with machinery transportation and equipment deliveries was our main challenge.

Sourced from Eastern Europe and Asia, the equipment came by road and sea. And due to schedule modifications some equipment was delayed.  Such delays were combined with the fact that we only had access to the forklifts after Renault’s working day.

Beck & Pollitzer solution

To install the body shop equipment we followed an in-depth project plan and deliveries were divided into several phases. According to the volume and weight of the equipment a 16 tonne forklift Truck was used to unload and install the tools.  Two elevators were also installed in pits of 1000mm and 2000mm depths.   More than 10 units of industrial lifting equipment including forklifts and cherry-pickers were used to lift up to the first floor.

Safety was, of course, our main concern and careful strategic planning was essential to ensure the work was completed safely.

Areas around us were in full production and it was essential that our engineers wore safety glasses, helmets, safety shoes, welding/cutting/lifting gloves, hi-vis jackets and protective clothing at all times.

The outcome

The project was completed on time and within budget, strengthening our, already, strong ties with Comau, ABB and KUKA.
